Rarely Asked Questions
Detoxify from Drinking?
Q: “Might a diet of wheatgrass for most of the year have cleansed the body so that any taking of alcohol or beer could be poison, deadly or toxic? Just checking all the bases before going gung ho with the program. Thanks so much for getting back to me; can’t wait for a reply.”
A: Eating PINES Wheat Grass will not change the toxicity of alcohol.
Alkaline or Acidic?
Q: Recently I have been hearing some stories regarding the benefits of wheat grass. Could you share any information available on the subject. My primary concern is to go from an internal acidic environment to a alkaline environment.
A: PINES Wheat Grass is considered an alkaline food, and would be an excellent addition to a diet in which creating a less acidic internal environment is a goal.
Betacarotene and Smoking?
Q: I’ve just bought Pines Wheat grass and I see it contains Betacarotene. I’ve been looking at the research on Betacarotene and I’m concerned that studies have concluded it is not a recommended dietary supplement as it promotes lung cancer in smokers (which I am). In light of these studies do you recommend smokers do not take Wheatgrass?
A: Smokers are fine taking PINES Wheat Grass. The studies in question used synthetically-derived, isolated beta-carotene supplements, not betacarotene naturally occurring in food. Everything we’ve seen about those studies clearly indicated that the results do not carry over to betacarotene you get from eating leafy green vegetables or other foods naturally rich in betacarotene.
Why no Citrus Juices?
Q: I have an older bottle of your wheat grass. On this label it says the powder should not be blended with citrus type juices. Can you tell me why the powder should be added only to non-citrus juices?
A: A few people over the years have commented that they get intestinal gas after mixing wheat grass with orange juice. This may come from some interaction between the fiber and the high acid content of orange juice. On the other hand, we know many people who *do* mix PINES with orange juice with no problems whatsoever. It’s another one of those "it depends on the individual" situations.
Vegan?
Q: Your products are listed as being vegetarian but are they also vegan? I just purchased your Wheat Grass tablets and I’m a little wary of misleading labeling as I’ve experienced this problem at least several times with other companies/products.
A: Yes, PINES products are vegan. Also, our labels offer complete and accurate ingredient lists, going so far as to break them down by percentage or quantity per serving whenever possible, not just listing them in order of amount, as required by regulations.
